Pay-Per-Role vs Recruiting Seat Pricing: Which Model Fits?

The headline price of recruiting software rarely answers the question that matters: what do you pay in the months you are not hiring? Seat pricing bills for operator access every month, hire or no hire, while pay-per-role pricing bills for each search you run.

We build Talent Summoner, the per-role option in the tables below: your first Role is free, your second is US$4, and after that a Role is US$29. If several people on your team search every week and live in a candidate database, a seat is the right buy and the second table says so.

Seat figures are annual-billing prices from the vendors' pages or published trackers: Recruiter Lite at US$140 a month billed yearly, reported in our LinkedIn Recruiter pricing guide, and Juicebox Starter at US$99 a seat a month on its annual plan, from our Juicebox pricing guide. Talent Summoner arithmetic is ours: year one uses the free first Role and the US$4 second Role, later years use US$29 a Role and the 3- and 10-Role bundles, all from the live pricing page.

A Recruiter Lite seat works out at US$840 a role at two hires and US$140 at twelve (our arithmetic), so the per-role gap narrows with volume while the absolute gap does not. Past a dozen roles a year, compare the seat with Pro at US$59 a month or Unlimited at US$299 a month rather than with single Roles.

A seat also includes things a Role does not: InMail, a database you can browse between hires, and always-on access for every operator.

The two billing models

Pay-per-role bills when you activate a search or buy Roles in advance. Spend follows a real brief, so idle months cost nothing.

Prepaid Roles can expire, so check the window: Talent Summoner's bundles stay valid for 24 months.

Seat pricing bills for access assigned to a named operator, monthly or on an annual commitment. It suits teams that search every week and browse a database between vacancies.

Ask whether reviewers need their own paid seat, and whether an annual term keeps billing through a hiring freeze.

A capitalised Role here is a Talent Summoner billing unit: one hiring search from brief to ranked shortlist. It is not a hire or a guaranteed outcome, and your team still contacts, interviews and decides.

Talent Summoner's current plans

The pricing page, checked 3 October 2026, lists the first Role free with no card, US$29 per Role as you go (US$79 for three, larger bundles cheaper per Role, all valid 24 months), Pro at US$59 a month for 10 Roles with extras at US$15, and Unlimited at US$299 a month for every open role. Unused monthly Roles do not carry over, and the US$4 second Role is a one-time offer made when the free Role is used.

Talent Summoner searches LinkedIn, GitHub and other public professional sources across 200M+ profiles and returns a ranked shortlist with must-haves, nice-to-haves and plain-English reasoning. It has no InMail, no always-on pipeline and no ATS integration today.

When a seat is worth it

Several operators search every week. Per-seat access pays for itself when the tool is open all day, not once a quarter.
You work the database between vacancies. Talent pools and saved searches need an always-on account.
InMail is your primary channel. A Role finds and ranks; it does not message anyone.

A practical decision rule

A handful of roles a year, team owns outreach: pay per Role.
Steady hiring, no seat needed for every reviewer: a monthly Role budget.
Weekly searching by several operators: a seat.

Either way, confirm who can operate, review and export before signing. Compare a year of your real cadence, not a month.

FAQ

Is pay-per-role the same as pay-per-hire?

No: pay-per-role charges for a defined sourcing unit, whether or not the search ends in a hire. It cannot guarantee interviews, offers or a filled vacancy.

Is recruiting seat pricing always monthly?

No: a seat may be monthly, annual or another commitment. Confirm the billing period, minimum term, renewal date, cancellation notice and whether inactive months are billed.

Do unused Talent Summoner Roles expire?

Roles bought one at a time or in bundles stay valid for 24 months. Roles included with the Pro plan are for that month and do not carry over.
