What salary should I offer a software engineer in Singapore?
MOM's official occupational wage data for June 2024 puts the median gross pay for a software developer at S$8,888 a month, with the 25th to 75th percentile spanning S$6,658 to S$13,513, and software and applications managers at a S$10,779 median. For the agency-placed senior end, the Morgan McKinley Singapore Salary Guide 2026 quotes S$70,000 to S$100,000 a year for a back-end engineer with 5–10 years' experience and S$100,000 to S$170,000 with 10–15 years.
Do I have to advertise the job before hiring a foreign engineer?
In most cases, yes. Under the Fair Consideration Framework, employers must advertise on MyCareersFuture for at least 14 consecutive days and fairly consider all candidates before submitting an Employment Pass or S Pass application, and should not make an offer during that window. Some roles are exempt, but MOM still encourages advertising — check the current rules on mom.gov.sg.
What does the Employment Pass require in 2026?
A qualifying salary of at least S$5,600 a month — S$6,200 in financial services — rising progressively with age up to S$10,700 and S$11,800 at 45 and above, plus 40 points on the COMPASS framework across salary, qualifications, diversity and local employment support. Both qualifying salaries rise for new applications from 1 January 2027, per MOM's Employment Pass eligibility page as of April 2026.
What does an employer pay on top of the salary?
Employer CPF contributions — 17% of wages for employees aged 55 and below from 1 January 2026, applied on monthly wages up to the S$8,000 ceiling, which works out at up to S$1,360 a month. CPF is payable for citizen and permanent resident employees; work pass holders sit outside the scheme.
Where do experienced software engineers work in Singapore?
The deepest pools are the homegrown platforms at one-north — Grab's headquarters, Shopee, Razer, Ubisoft — the multinational offices around Pasir Panjang, where Google runs its Asia-Pacific headquarters, and the banks' hubs in Changi Business Park, where DBS alone employs more than 7,500 engineers. Jobstreet's location data puts Changi at the top of the pay table at about S$10,000 a month as of August 2026.
