ZipRecruiter vs Indeed for Employers: What Each Costs (2026)
In the US, Indeed posts free for three jobs a month; ZipRecruiter is reported from about $299 a month a slot. Which fits which role. November 2026.

For an employer, the difference is the bill. In the US, Indeed is free for up to three jobs a month and charges a budget you set to sponsor more, while ZipRecruiter is reported from about $299 a month per job slot.
We build Talent Summoner, which is neither: it does not post jobs, and it searches public profiles for people who fit your role, including people who never applied. Your first Role is free, with no card.
This page is for employers; job seekers should search each site directly. If you hire every week, keep a board; if you hire a few times a year, compare both with the shortlist below.
ZipRecruiter vs Indeed: what does an employer pay?
Indeed's rules come from its own pages. ZipRecruiter's pricing page blocked automated requests, so its figures are reported by third-party guides.
| Indeed | ZipRecruiter | Talent Summoner | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Posts your job | Yes | Yes | No |
| How you pay | Free posts, or a budget per sponsored job | Reported: monthly plan per job slot | Per Role, or a monthly plan |
| Free option | Up to 3 jobs a month (US), 30 days each | Reported: 2 to 4 day trial | First Role free, no card |
| Typical price | Your budget; minimum set per job. Reported: $0.10 to $5 or more a click | Reported: from about $299 Standard, $419 Premium, $719 Pro | Unlimited US$299 for 4 people (+US$59 each) or Pro US$59 a month for 10 Roles; or US$29 per Role; first Role free, no card |
| Resume access | Smart Sourcing: $520 a month or $4,992 a year on Indeed's US page, 100 contacts | Premium and up, reported 25 views a month on Premium | None: it searches public profiles, not a resume database |
| Best for | High-volume, hourly and local roles | Repeat roles: a slot can be reused as each role closes | Roles where the right people are not applying |
How do the two bills compare on example roles?
The arithmetic uses our example budgets for Indeed, which sets your real minimum at setup, and reported ZipRecruiter floors.
| Role | Indeed (most you pay, our example budget) | ZipRecruiter (reported, from) | Talent Summoner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warehouse associate | $10 a day for 21 days: $210 | Standard, 1 month: from about $299 | Not a job post: first Role free, then US$29 |
| Office manager | $15 a day for 30 days: $450 | Standard, 1 month: from about $299 | Not a job post: first Role free, then US$29 |
| Senior backend engineer | $20 a day for 60 days: $1,200 | Premium, 2 months: from about $838 | Not a job post: first Role free, then US$29 |
The two are not like for like: Indeed charges for clicks or started applications, ZipRecruiter for time. A role that draws few clicks is cheaper on Indeed, and one that stays open a long time is easier to budget on ZipRecruiter.
How do the two work in practice?
- Indeed: free posts slide down results as newer jobs arrive, so sponsoring is how a post stays seen. Billing is on the first of the month or at $500 of spend.
- ZipRecruiter: a slot is reusable, so cost follows how many roles you have open at once. Reported extras include $300 to $500 TrafficBoost credits.
- Both: the core product is a job post; each also sells resume search.
Details and sources are in our guides to what Indeed costs and what ZipRecruiter costs.
What does it cost to run 3 roles a year?
This assumes three office-manager-style roles: Indeed sponsored at the $450 example, ZipRecruiter on one Standard slot for three months that you cancel between roles. Kept all year, guides report from about $3,600.
| Option | Year one | Later years | What the money buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indeed free posts only | $0 | $0 | Applicants who find the post before it slides |
| Indeed sponsored, 3 roles | up to $1,350 | up to $1,350 | Applicants who saw the ad |
| ZipRecruiter Standard, 3 months | From $897 | From $897 | Applicants, plus platform invites |
| Talent Summoner, 3 Roles | US$33 | US$79 | A ranked shortlist for each role; outreach is your job |
Our arithmetic: year one is a free Role, then US$4, then US$29. Later years use the US$79 3-Role bundle.
These options buy different things. A post brings people who chose to apply, while a shortlist brings people who fit but may not be looking, and you still have to write to them.
When is each one worth it?
- Indeed: start here for hourly, local or high-volume roles, because three free posts a month (US) may cover you.
- ZipRecruiter: consider it for repeat roles: a slot can be reused as each role closes, and one place distributes and invites candidates.
- Neither: in our view, for senior or niche roles, where the right people are often employed and not searching.
You can run both: a free Indeed post for inbound applicants and a sourced shortlist for people who will never see it. The same trade-off applies to LinkedIn job posting cost.
Where Talent Summoner fits
Candidate sourcing searches LinkedIn, GitHub and other public sources, over 200 million profiles, and ranks people against your must-haves and nice-to-haves. When you reach out, it drafts each message and sends it from your own Gmail, Outlook or LinkedIn after you review each message and confirm the send.
Prices as of 4 November 2026: Unlimited is US$299 a month for up to 4 people (US$59 per extra person) and Pro is US$59 a month for 10 Roles; unused Roles do not carry over. Or pay per Role: your first Role is free, then US$29 (pricing).
Trade-offs, stated plainly: no LinkedIn InMail, no always-on pipeline and no ATS integration today.
It is not a job board: it does not post jobs or collect applications. See also cost per hire.
We checked these facts on 4 November 2026 and re-check them every quarter. Indeed figures, including Smart Sourcing, come from its US pricing and help pages; ZipRecruiter and click figures are reported by Pin, Truffle and Fit Small Business and could not be confirmed on the vendors' own pages.
